Description

As a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) major in Biological Sciences, you’ll develop a deep understanding of living systems and gain the critical thinking, analytical, and research skills needed to thrive in diverse fields such as science, education, healthcare, and biotechnology.

Both inside and outside the classroom, you’ll be challenged to think independently and work collaboratively. Most faculty members lead their own active research programs, giving you the opportunity to participate in hands-on projects across a range of biological disciplines. Students are also encouraged to attend seminars and pursue internships to expand their professional experience.

If your career goals include teaching, the Department of Biological Sciences collaborates with the College of Education to offer pathways to teaching degrees.

We also offer two combined bachelor’s and master’s degree programs:

  • Biological Sciences (B.A./M.S. or B.S./M.S.)

  • Biological Sciences and Secondary Education (B.A./M.Ed. or B.S./M.Ed.)

These programs allow you to earn both your undergraduate and graduate degrees in as few as five years.

Degree Options

B.A. in Biological Sciences
The B.A. track provides a strong foundation in biology while offering greater flexibility in humanities and social sciences coursework. It’s ideal for students interested in interdisciplinary careers or professional health programs that combine science with communication, policy, or education.

B.S. in Biological Sciences
The B.S. track features a more structured and science-intensive curriculum, emphasizing advanced courses in biology, chemistry, and mathematics. Students choose from one of the following concentrations:

  • Cell and Molecular Biology

  • Ecology and Evolution

  • Integrative Biology

  • Medicine and Health

  • Microbiology and Biotechnology

  • Neuroscience

  • Physiology

International Students: This program is STEM-designated, allowing eligible graduates to apply for an extended post-completion stay in the United States.
