The Zhejiang University–University of Edinburgh Institute (ZJE) is a joint academic collaboration in Biomedical Sciences between Zhejiang University (China) and the University of Edinburgh (United Kingdom). The institute is located at Zhejiang University’s International Campus in Haining and focuses on research, teaching innovation and international talent development.

II. Academic Programmes
All programmes are taught in English.
1. B.Sc. Integrative Biomedical Sciences
A multidisciplinary degree exploring modern biomedical sciences. The curriculum combines biomedical, chemical and clinical sciences. Optional courses in later years cover topics such as immunology, physiology, neuroscience, microbiology, pharmacology, reproductive biology, and developmental biology.
2. B.Sc. Biomedical Informatics
This programme covers the use of computation and data in health and biomedical research. Students study biomedical sciences alongside new courses in information processing, data analysis, and biomedical data technologies. The goal is to prepare students for research and applied work in biomedical informatics.
III. Dual Degree Award
Students admitted to this programme are enrolled in both Zhejiang University and the University of Edinburgh.
Upon successful completion of the four-year programme and meeting both institutions’ requirements, graduates receive:
- Bachelor of Science (Honours), University of Edinburgh
- Bachelor of Science, Zhejiang University
- Graduation Certificate, Zhejiang University
IV. Fees and Scholarships
Fees
- Application Fee: CNY 800 (non-refundable)
- Tuition: CNY 200,000 per year
- Accommodation: CNY 8,000–10,000 per year
- Medical Insurance: CNY 800 per year
- Estimated Living Expenses: CNY 35,000–50,000 per year
Scholarships (subject to policy at the time of admission)
Three types of scholarship may be available:

Undergraduate Scholarship Tuition Waiver Levels:
- A: CNY 200,000/year (full waiver)
- B: CNY 140,000/year (student pays 60,000/year)
- C: CNY 80,000/year (student pays 120,000/year)
- D: CNY 40,000/year (student pays 160,000/year)
Scholarships are valid for four years and reviewed annually based on academic performance and compliance with institute rules.
V. Eligibility
General Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport
- Be under 25 years old
- Be high school graduates (or graduating in 2025)
- Be in good mental and physical health
- Abide by Chinese law and university regulations
- Respect Chinese culture and customs
Language Requirements
No Chinese language proficiency is required.
Applicants whose native language is not English must provide English test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, or equivalent).

VII. Admission Process
- Selection is competitive and based on academic performance, English proficiency, and overall application quality.
- Applicants receiving a Pre-Admission Notice must prepay the first-year tuition fee within the time specified. Failure to do so cancels pre-admission.
- Once tuition payment is confirmed and the academic calendar is issued, official admission documents—including the Admission Notice and JW202 Visa Form—will be mailed to successful applicants.
VIII. Registration
Registration typically takes place in late August or early September. The exact date will be listed in the matriculation notice.
Students must apply for an X1 visa using:
- Valid passport
- Matriculation notice
- JW202 Form
Upon arrival, students register in person at the International Campus of Zhejiang University with their passport, admission documents, visa, and JW202. High school diplomas must be presented if a pre-graduation certificate was submitted earlier. Failure to provide the diploma will result in admission cancellation.

Overview
Zhejiang University is a public university in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. It is affiliated with the Ministry of Education. The university is part of Double First-Class Construction, Project 985, and Project 211.
Zhejiang University is a public institution that traces its roots back to 1897. The university is located in Hangzhou, the capital of China’s Zhejiang province, about 110 miles southwest of Shanghai. More than 47,000 students attend the university, and around half of them study at the undergraduate level. Zhejiang University comprises seven campuses: the main campus, Zijingang, and the Yuquan, Xixi, Huajiachi, Zhijiang, Zhoushan and Haining campuses. Tuition costs are higher for international students and vary by subject and degree level. University housing is available for both undergraduate and graduate students.
The university offers programs in a variety of disciplines, including engineering, the humanities and medicine. In all, students can choose from more than 120 undergraduate programs and well over 300 master's programs. Doctoral programs are also available. The primary language of instruction is Chinese, but Zhejiang University also offers more than a dozen master’s degree programs taught in English. The English-taught master’s offerings include programs in business, China studies and engineering. The university follows a four-term academic calendar. University resources include seven affiliated hospitals and a library that houses more than 6.83 million volumes. Among the laboratory facilities at Zhejiang University are more than a dozen national key labs that focus on different specialty areas, such as the State Key Lab of Clean Energy Utilization, the State Key Lab of Rice Biology and the State Key Lab of Modern Optical Instrumentation.
